Why Did You Get That Flat Screen?
For some, the purpose of getting an LCD is to upgrade over a CRT orĀ an earlier generation flat screen, to get a bigger picture, or to give their back a break with a much lighter set. For others, it is all about the picture quality. If your goal for a new LCD is to get the brightest, sharpest, and most realistic high-definition image with some reliability (expect it to last a decade, not a year), here are some LCDs to avoid.
Sony Bravia 32L5000
After nine months, the screen went blank and the TV could not be turned off unless you unplugged it. Plus, the other controls and buttons stopped working. Bottom-line, it was junk after nine months. Check into the Sony Bravia line. While it is okay while it lasts, it dies young.
Picture Quality.
32L5000 has terrible detail. It is a lot worse than the Samsung LN32B360 or LG 32LH20. If SONY is your company, buy a different one. This entry level SONY is not your answer. For proof, just go to a retail store and look at the picture with your own eyes.
Price vs. Performance.
With newer models available, a slight greenish tinge to some colors, a relatively uneven screen, its price, and reliability, this is a screen that requires a lot of forgiveness to purchase.
ViewSonic N3252W 32-Inch LCD HDTV.
Sound problems.
Everytime the TV is powered, it produces a loud screeching sound, like nails on a chalkboard. After turning the TV off and on again, the sound would be gone. Changing channels sometimes would stop the sound, but this blaring noise doesn’t seem like normal behavior for a new LCD.
To get around this problem, a high-quality home theater system was added to avoid using the speakers. The idea was that the theater speakers would block the LCD speakers. Guess what? The sound came through the new theater speakers, too!
Poor Performance.
The TV hangs like Windows. The image will just freeze and will only return once the set is powered off and on. The picture fluctuates between color and black & white are aggravating.
There is no way to auto-tune channels. For 50 channels, you have to manually adjust 100 times!
Great for PC Monitors, not for LCD TVs.
While Viewsonic has quite the reputation for making indsutry-recognized computer monitors, their attempts at LCD TVs is questionable. This Viewsonic model is probably the worst example of this effort. This is something to keep in mind when considering Viewsonic for your next LCD TV.
