Sony has been a leader in the television reviews for quite some time now, but the new KDL XH800 series may set them apart from every other company out there. These new 3D LED-lit TVs come in 40-, 46-, and 55-inches, all of which are attractively put together and create some very stunning visuals. However, there are a few things about the KDL HX800 series that must be noted, such as its 3D capability and its performance.
Style
First off, Sony really knows how to design a television, and the Sony Bravia KDL HX800 series is no exception. While it may not be as slick as the Sony NX700, the bevel gives it a two-tone design that creates an aluminum bottom edge that looks good against the glossy black color found throughout the rest of the television. The LEDs fit inside the bevel, which creates a much slimmer TV.
The only odd feature with this series is found on the remote control. Sony’s remotes are not considered the most ergonomic or trend-setting devices on the market anyway, but the fact that the power button is on the bottom of the remote control might confuse you at first. You will get used to it after awhile, but it is quite odd to say the least.
Features
Since the TV comes in three sizes, you’ll need to decide which is best for your room. While the 40-inch television might be too small to take advantage of the 3D capability, the 55-inch TV will do the job just fine – there is a significant price difference between the two, so the 40-inch television is an extremely good purchase if 3D isn’t a necessity.
Speaking of 3D, this series uses an external 3D system that must be purchased separately; this makes it a 3D-optional TV rather than one that is already equipped with the feature. Another feature worth mentioning is streaming via Bravia Internet Video, which includes content from Yahoo!, SBS and more.
Picture and Sound
Some LED-lit TVs produce poor contrast; however, Sony has created a TV that produces deep blacks, high contrast, brilliant colors and sharpness that is unlike any other LED-lit TV on the market. Sound doesn’t distort from the built-in speakers; while not very loud, the audio is crisp.
Leave it up to Sony to produce yet another television that makes competitor televisions seem lacking in both visuals and style.
